Even though the holiday season has come to an end I couldn’t help myself from not sharing this recipe. I made this for a few friends and it was a huge hit, these muddy buddies are seriously so delicious and extremely addicting. They are great for a party or just a snack to have around the house, and it will leave everyone coming back for more.

Ingredients

  • 5 cups rice Chex cereal
  • 2 boxes Andes mints (4.67 ounces each)
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 4 teaspoons sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Add the powdered sugar and sprinkles to a plastic bag and mix together.
  2. Put the Chex cereal in a large bowl.
  3. Melt the Andes in a microwave bowl for 1 minute and stir until smooth. If not melted, microwave for additional 15 second increments until melted and smooth.
  4. Pour the melted Andes over the Chex cereal and mix until the cereal is coated. Act quick because the Andes dries fast. Add the cereal to the plastic bag with the powdered sugar mixture and shake until the cereal is completely covered.

christmas-presents

Can you believe Christmas is only 2 days away? It amazes me how quickly this holiday season has flown by. Most of my Christmas shopping has been done for quite a while, but I still have a few last minute things to get. If you are anything like my family though, the Christmas shopping barely begun this weekend.

There are so many great deals leading up to Christmas and gift cards are a great option. So many great restaurants are giving away extra money when you buy a certain amount on a gift card. Gift cards make great stocking stuffers and every college student loves money for food.

Cheesecake Factory- spend $25.00 and get a free slice of cheesecake
Cafe Rio (certain days only)- spend $25.00 and get a free meal
Zupas (Utah)-spend $25.00 and get a $5.00 gift card or spend $50.00 and get $10.00
Chili’s- spend $50.00 and get $10.00
Olive Garden- spend $50.00 and get $10.00
Benihana-spend $50.00 and get $10.00
Jamba Juice- $25.00 and get a free small smoothie

The list goes on and on. If you have a restaurant in mind, make sure to check what great deals they might have on gift cards.

There are also a lot of stores offering free shipping and a great percent off.

American Eagle has free shipping on everything plus all jeans under $30.00
Nordstrom is also free shipping with a guarantee Christmas Eve delivery
Amazon also has free shipping by Christmas Eve with Prime

It is not too late to find great gifts for people!

With so many gifts to hand out it is nice to find something clever, useful and yet still cheap.  If you are still in a bind with what to give people check out this post for two awesome ideas that people are sure to love!

“Poppin'” by to wish you a Merry Christmas!”

I went to Sam’s Club and got a big box of microwave popcorn and then taped the tag onto the popcorn for an easy gift idea!  I got two boxes of microwave popcorn for $15 and was able to give out 56 gifts.  I gave these to all my coworkers at the Elementary School I work at and they all thought it was very clever and cute.

Here is a printable gift tag (without my name of course) for you to use!

Poppin’ By Christmas Tag

“We hope you have a “SOUPER” Holiday!!”

This was the Christmas gift my family gave to our neighborhood this year! We bought soup mixes for $3 and tied the note with red ribbon.  People love soup at this cold time of the year and it was simple to put together.

Give these a try and let us know what you think! What are some other cheap, good holiday gift ideas you’ve seen?

DIY Ugly Sweater Ideas

There is something about dressing up that makes going to parties even more fun! Ugly sweater parties are a must go-to during the holiday season.  This year I wanted to make an ugly sweater.  I had seen this idea around pinterest and thought I would give it a try.  Trust me when I say it was super easy and cheap.

I bought two 12 pack ornaments from the dollar store along with a tree topper.  I also found some leftover tinsel from decorating our house that I was able to use.  I bought the green sweater from Savers for $3!

I then wrapped the tinsel around the sweater until it was covering the whole sweater.  I tied the ornaments onto the front of the sweater where I wanted them and then pinned the tinsel onto the sweater and next thing you know I have an ugly sweater! It took me about thirty minutes, cost me $6, and was a huge success!

Onto another ugly sweater idea. Emily made hers from a sweatshirt she got at target for $5. She used green felt she had left over from the Felt Christmas Tree. The tree was decorated with pom poms, bells, bows and felt presents all found at Michael’s for 70% off totaling $3.00. It is hard to tell but there are actual lights strung on the tree. Those were leftover from some signs we made this year, but they are battery operated poster lights that can also be found at Michael’s. This sweater cost $8.00 and was totally worth every penny. The tree was safety pinned onto the shirt so the sweatshirt can be worn again.

and one last idea….if you are not into the whole ugly sweater thing or can’t find/make one. Go for an over the top- if the hunger games celebrated christmas at capital-headdress that will also be a huge hit. Also found at Michael’s for about $2.00

Ugly Sweater Christmas Party

Something Splendid is now over at http://somethingsplendidblog.com. Come check us out over there for even more great ideas.

As you can probably tell, we love parties over here. It would not be Christmas without an ugly sweater party. Parties with a theme always seem to go smoother than those without and this was no exception. We decided to keep it super simple with cupcakes, decorate your own sugar cookies and a hot chocolate bar. The hot chocolate bar was  a huge hit and will definitely be making an appearance again. We had Christmas music playing throughout the night and everyone had a great night spending time with each other.

The cupcakes were a basic white box mix which we frosted with can frosting from Michaels (normally we are all about the homemade but with finals, that was the farthest thing from our minds).

I saw a cookie tree on another blog last year and could not stop obsessing over it. I had to re create it. I was so happy with it. For the hot chocolate bar we had homemade marshmallows and peppermint whip cream. Both were a huge hit and really set it over the top.

For additional activities at your holiday party you could have a white elephant gift exchange, or you could play minute to win it games-christmas style, or even brave the cold and have a snowball fight. The possibilities are endless.

Happy Holidays!

1920’s Party

Something Splendid is now over at http://somethingsplendidblog.com. Come check us out over there for even more great ideas.

What’s not to love about the 20’s? The attire, the decorations, the dancing, really just everything. We recently hosted a 20’s party that turned out better then we could have hoped and was very inexpensive.

Most of the props came from the dollar store or were items around the house we already had. When people walked into the party we had these signs taped all over the door and walls. This print out can be found here.

The food table is an essential role to every party because that’s where guests spend a majority of their time. For the sign I bought a white foam board from Walmart and painted it with black chalkboard paint which is around $2-4 per bottle. The doilies I bought from Michaels and used a 50% off coupon which made the entire pack $1.50. For the food we served a cheese ball and crackers, artichoke dip, cookies, rice krispie treats and cake. The recipe we used for this amazing artichoke dip can be found here

We had another table off to the side for sparkling cider which we poured into martini glasses we bought from the dollar store. The sign in the frame can be found here. My favorite prop of the night, which was a huge hit, was the candy cigarettes shown below. I purchased them on amazon and they came in a box with 24 packs.

For the entertainment we had a game of poker going and another table set up for cards. We also had The Great Gatsby Soundtrack playing in the background along with some space for dancing.

Our party turned out extremely successful and was fairly easy to throw together. We highly recommend it if you are looking for a fun party theme.
