Something Splendid is now over at http://somethingsplendidblog.com. Come check us out over there for even more great ideas. To me, Salt Lake City is one of the greatest places on earth. It isn’t Christmas with some ice skating at the Gallivan Center, or the iconic lights at Temple Square. There are countless things to do and with the holiday season here, it is easy to miss out on some of the fun things this city has to offer. Here is a great guide of this gorgeous city I get to call home.
The lights at Temple Square- One of the most popular attraction in Salt Lake City as well as the prettiest (in my opinion). Best of all it is free and goes until December 31. Temple Square also has a ton of other activities going on throughout the month.
Ice Skating at the Gallivan Center- Salt Lake City’s own Rockefeller Center.
Open every day at 12pm and its only $8 or visit Groupon for an awesome deal.
Gardener Village in West Jordan, UT- The most adorable collection of shops and decor. Looking is free, trying not to buy something.. thats another problem. They also have a free Elf Scavenger Hunt printable as an added measure of fun.
The Nutcracker Ballet- Ballet West is celebrating 50 years as well opening up the newly renovated Capitol Theatre. The dancers are incredible, the show is fun, and the music heartwarming. Tickets are between $ 29.00- $69.00.
The Festival of Trees- Rows and rows of the most intricately decorated trees. All proceeds go to Primary Children’s Hospital, and it only costs $5.00. It is only going on for a short time so check their website for days and times.
City Creek Center Light Display- A water/light/fire show, lights all around your favorite stores, and right across from temple square, this free attraction is always a hit. Plus Santa is there for the littles.
“Light up the Night” at the Gateway-Their lights are gorgeous and they have fires set up around to warm you as you explore. Best of all it is free as well.
Zoolights at the Hogle Zoo. This is a great place to take kids and is such a fun place. Adults are $7 and Children are $5 unless they are 2 and under, then they are free.
Thanksgiving Point has a gorgeous light display. Cars are only $8 dollars to get through and you get to stay in the nice toasty warm comfort of your car as you drive through this display. Thanksgiving point also has a lot of other fun free activities- a reindeer on the plaza and ice carving.
This is the Place Candlelight Christmas. From December 9-23 from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm you can visit what was been transformed into a scene from a Currier & Ives card. Visitor Center Gift Shop, Train Rides and dinner available for purchase at the Huntsman Grill starting at 5:00pm . The prices are as followed: $10/adults, $7/children (3-11) & seniors, Free/children (2 and under).
Hatch Family Chocolate is located at 376 8th Avenue Unit A in Salt Lake City. They have amazing chocolates, ice cream and the hot chocolate is to die for. This shop is known for their show on TLC called “The Little Chocolatiers” about the family of midgets who run the chocolate shop. You can click on the name to get directed to their website to see clips from the show. This is one of my favorite Christmas traditions ever
